Recall of Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder

Reckitt/Mead Johnson announced yesterday that as a precautionary measure it has chosen to voluntarily recall select batches of Nutramigen powder, a specialty infant formula for the dietary management of Cows Milk Allergy (CMA), due to a remote possibility of cross-contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii in product sampled outside the U.S. All product distributed went through extensive testing and tested negative for the bacteria.

Based on the limited availability of the remaining stock of this special infant formula, it is believed that much, if not all, of the products have been consumed without any reports of illnesses or adverse events.

We are informing you to ensure that you have all the information you need regarding this situation so that you can confidently respond to any questions your patients may have.

Although this impacts a very select group of products which are critical for babies who have allergies to cow’s milk, we do not expect this voluntary recall to have any additional impact on supply. We continue to produce all Nutramigen products at full capacity.

Should parents and caregivers find their preferred Nutramigen powder products are not readily available, we recommend consumers consider using Nutramigen Liquid formats (Ready to Use or Concentrate) or consult with their baby’s health care provider, as they are in the best position to offer dietary guidance.

Details of the Nutramigen Being Voluntarily Recalled: 

Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking Consumers to discard or return the product immediately. We are advising consumers to direct any health concerns to their health care provider.
